Saints deal for kicker Mare (USA Today)

The Associated Press is reporting that the Miami Dolphins have traded kicker Olindo Mare to the New Orleans Saints for a sixth round draft pick (199th overall) in the 2007 NFL Draft.

Also of note in the link: NFL to allow more local television stations to use cameras on NFL sidelines in 2007, thanks to lawsuits in Missouri and Arizona.

Glazer: Bears reject Skins offer for Pro Bowler Griggs (FoxSports)

Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports that the Chicago Bears have rejected the Washington Redskins offer for Pro Bowl linebacker Lance Briggs.  The Redskins offered their first round selection, the 31 overall, for the linebacker.

The Green Bay Packers have named a woman as a vice president for the first time in their 89-year history.

Vicki Vannieuwenhoven was selected Tuesday as vice president of finance.  The nameplate company will use the William VanLandingham template for her office door plate.

Former Arizona DiamondBacks and current owner of the NBA’s Phoenix Suns Jerry Colangelo continues to have interest in purchasing the Chicago Cubs from the Tribune Company

The Tribune Company announced yesterday that they have been purchased by real estate mogul Sam Zell for $8.2 billion and will sell the club after the 2007 season.

A Las Vegas oddsmaker revealed on Monday that he filed a report to the NCAA regarding an unusual amount of wagering taking place on University of Toledo football games nearly two years ago.

Last Friday, the U.S. Attorney’s office accused a starting running back on the Rockets for point shaving and recruiting teammates to do the same.
