Tom Glavine notches win 300

5 08 2007

In perhaps one of the last pitchers to compile 300 wins, New York Mets lefthander Tom Glavine pitched 6 1/3 innings, scattering six hits and only allowed two runs in his milestone victory over the Chicago Cubs Sunday.

Glavine becomes just the 23rd pitcher in the history of baseball to win 300 games.

Congratulations to one of the best pitchers in the last 20 years, Tom Glavine!

Tiger wins ‘Who’s Now?’

5 08 2007

The long awaited winner has been crowned for ESPN’s moronic contest “Who’s Now?” and the answer isn’t all that surprising: Tiger Woods.

Woods won in convincing fashion, downing Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James in a landslide.  Tiger racked up 63.8% of the vote — LeBron just 36.2% — out of 370,270 tallies.

The winner was announced on the Sunday morning program SportsCenter.

This was such a huge achievement that (probably meant more than that first Masters, huh?) Woods released a statement upon hearing of his “victory”:

“As a huge fan of ESPN, this is an honor. They always come up with cool new content. I’d like to thank all the fans who took the time to vote for me.”

Now we can put a fork in one of the dumbest ideas ever hatched by the “The Worldwide Teaser.” And that ridiculous song that accompanies the tournament goes away, too.

Everyone wins!

LA’s Kelvim Escobar lost his third straight start despite allowing just one earned run and two hits over seven innings. He matched his career high with seven walks and struck out two.

Red Sox 4, M’s 3 — Former Seattle farmhand Jason Varitek’s two-run single in the fourth proved be a catalyst as the Boston Red Sox held on for Japanese import Daisuke Matsuzaka’s 13th victory 4-3.
