Red Sox 6, O’s 2 — Josh Beckett flirted with a complete-game shutout, allowing eight hits, no runs and struck out eight in 8 2/3 innings. He got his 15th win of the season — best in MLB — and Jonathan Papelbon closed the door on Baltimore’s ninth-inning rally attempt by retiring Melvin Mora for his 27th save.

Yanks 11, Indians 2 — Alex Rodriguez smashed a two-run homer in the seven-run second inning and then extended the lead with a solo blast to right-center field in the eighth inning as the Yankees rolled to an 11-2 win over fading Cleveland.

A’s 2, Tigers 5 — Magglio Ordonez provided the game-winning runs with a two-run homer in the sixth as Justin Verlander scattered seven hits and two runs over six innings, striking out seven and walking three in the Tigers’ 5-2 win over Oakland.

Twins 3, Angels 4 — Los Angeles’ John Lackey earned his 15th win and Maicer Izturis hit a go-ahead homer in the eighth inning, rallying the Angels to a 4-3 victory over the Twins.

Someone say...Sergio? Garcia gets his DQ from PGA Champ (AP)Sergio Garcia DQ’d from PGA Championship (Sportsline) The Spaniard was disqualified from the PGA Championship for signing an incorrect scorecard Saturday.

Woods leads PGA after three rounds (AP/USA Today) Tiger has never lost a major when leading after 36 holes. Should he win, he’ll collect his 13th career major.

Webb extends scoreless streak (AP/ESPN) The reigning Cy Young Award winner dealt his second consecutive complete game shutout in a row, extending his scoreless innings streak to 33 innings.

Javon Walker breaks silence (AP/FOX Sports) Denver Broncos wide receiver Javon Walker discusses the final moments in the life of former teammate Darrent Williams, who died in his arms after being shot on New Year’s Day in a drive-by shooting. Walker tells HBO’s “Real Sports” that he still has Williams’ unlaundered shirt as a reminder of how quickly life can vanish in the blink of an eye.
