Conor Jackson played a vital role in Arizona’s win; the White Sox gave up another 10+ runs against the Red Sox; the Brewers continued to pull an “el foldo” and the Yanks still trailed the wild card-leading Seattle Mariners by 2 1/2 games and hold a three-game edge over Detroit in the AL wild card race.

Boston 14, White Sox 2 — Tim Wakefield joined teammate Josh Beckett as the only 16-game winners in the major leagues in a 14-2 romp over the White Sox.

Yankees 7, Tigers 2 — New York’s Johnny Damon was 2-for-5 with a triple, a home run and two RBIs and Bobby Abreu was 2-for-3, scored once and stole three bases in the 7-2 win over Detroit.

Indians 9, Royals 4 — Cleveland’s Aaron Laffey got 14 groundball outs in six innings and Grady Sizemore and Victor Martinez homered to help Cleveland beat the Royals 9-4 in KC’s Kaufmann Stadium.

M’s 3, Rangers 5 — Ian Kinsler hit a three-run homer, and the Texas Rangers took advantage of two Adrian Beltre errors to beat the Seattle Mariners 5-3.

BlueJays 9, Angels 2 – A four-run ninth inning, highlighted by Troy Glaus’ two-run home run, helped seal the deal for the visiting BlueJays in their 9-2 trouncing of the Los Angeles Angels of Los Angeles of Anaheim.

Dodgers 3, Mets 4 — Orlando Hernandez pitched seven sharp innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out seven as the New York Metropolitan’s eked out a 4-3 win over visiting Los Angeles.

Padres 4, Fightin’ Phils 3 – The Padres’ Kevin Kouzmanoff hit a go-ahead homer off Brett Myers in the ninth inning and the San Diego Padres beat Philadelphia 4-3.

Braves 4, Cardinals 5 – Jim Edmonds and Albert Pujols had two hits and an RBI each and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Atlanta Braves 5-4, snapping Tim Hudson’s nine-game wiThe Buried Lead › Edit — WordPressnning streak.

Brewers 2, Giants 6 – The Giants scored four runs on a walk and five consecutive singles in the first inning, as the Brewers lost for the 20th time in 29 games and continue to trail the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central.

Cubs 1, D’Backs 3 — Conor Jackson hit a two-run homer and Doug Davis won for the sixth time in seven decisions, leading the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 3-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs.
