NFL to suspend Dallas Cowboys assistant coach?

1 09 2007

Wilson admits to receiving HGH (NY Daily News)

Earlier in “The Snooze,” we mentioned that New England Patriot strong safety Rodney Harrison had been suspended by the NFL for four games for obtaining/using human growth hormone (HGH).

Now it appears that an assistant coach has been ensnared in the NFL’s dragnet: Dallas Cowboys assistant Wade Wilson. Chris Mortensen mentioned on the Saturday morning edition of SportsCenter that the coach was suspended four games by the league for his involvement in this matter.

Wilson admitted receiving human growth hormone and anabolic steroids while a coach with the Chicago Bears, where he worked from 2004-2006. League officials were interested to know whether he used the drugs himself or whether he supplied them to players. Harrison admitted to receiving human growth hormone. Although the league does not test for HGH, a player can be suspended under the NFL doping policy if he admits or it can be proven that he took or possessed anything on the banned substances list.

We were really looking forward to taking a few days off. Damn it to hell!

***UPDATED at 3:10 PM ET***

According to one our faithful readers (CSD), the league suspended Wilson for five games for obtaining the HGH.

Chicago Cubs victory dance (YouTube)

We lied — we’ve got one more thing to share with you this weekend before our mini-vacation: watching Cubs fans “enjoying themselves” after yet another victory at the “Friendly Confines.”  And keep an eagle eye out for the guy at the very end, who looks like he’s, um, performing liquid target practice.
