The morning after, 9.2.07: MLB scoreboard

2 09 2007

The morning after we changed our mind, thanks to Clay Bucholz…

The Yankees increased their AL wild-card lead to two games as Ian Kennedy won his big-league debut; the Braves lost for the eighth time in their last 11 games to fall 6 1/2 behind the Mets in the NL East; the Indians’ Paul Byrd notched a complete game shutout and Rick Ankiel, Jim Edmonds and Yadier Molina combined for eight hits and nine RBIs in demolishing Cincinnati.

Royals 4, Twins 6 – Mike Redmond’s two-run double in the fifth inning keyed a four-run rally as the Twins beat the Royals, 6-4.

D’Rays 6, Yankees 9 — Alex Rodriguez homered and drove in four runs to back Ian Kennedy’s 'A-Rod' has big day at the plate, gets bat checked (AP Photo)stellar major league debut, leading the New York Yankees to a 9-6 victory over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

Rangers 7, Angels 6 — LA’s Kelvim Escobar fanned six, but allowed 11 of his 18 batters to reach base. In total, Escobar gave up five runs, six hits and four walks in an effort that fell short of what the Angels needed as the visiting Rangers won 7-6.

O’s 0, Red Sox 10 — It’s been quite the season for the Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox starter Clay Bucholz compounded that fact Saturday. The 23-year-old rookie pitched a no-hitter in just his second outing, using a three-pitch assortment of fastballs, curves and changeups to beat the Baltimore Orioles 10-0.

White Sox 0, Indians 7 — Cleveland’s Paul Byrd tossed a four-hit shutout, handing the Indians their eighth straight win with a 7-0 defeat of the White Sox. Casey Blake and Travis Hafner drove in two runs apiece while Franklin Gutierrez and Kelly Shoppach homered to account for the Indians’ offense.
