Bonds won’t return with Giants in ‘08 (ESPN News Services)

The Barry Bonds era in San Francisco that began in the early 1990s will come to end at the end of the 2007 season.

The club has decided to part ways with the major leagues’ all-time home runs hitter after careful consideration. The initial announcement was made on Bonds’ website earlier Friday.

“Although I am disappointed, I’ve always said baseball is a business — and I respect their decision,” Bonds said on the site. “However, I am saddened and upset that I was not given an earlier opportunity to properly say goodbye to you, my fans, and celebrate with the city throughout the season as I truly believe this was not a last minute decision by the Giants, but one that was made some time ago.”

The organization was scheduled to have a press conference at 7 PM PT to announce their decision.
