According to a sources close to ESPN The Magazine’s Buster Olney, the New York Yankees will name Don Mattingly their manager on Friday, an off day in the World Series schedule.
The broadcast report comes from an ESPN News ‘alert.’
More a bit later…
***UPDATED at 8:40 PM ET***
Updating an earlier report — and error: ESPN has an updated article on its website. The article profiles Mattingly after his interview with the Yankees brass. The mention from Olney is as follows:
A source tells ESPN the Magazine’s Buster Olney that it “is a good bet” that the Yankees will name the team’s next manager on Friday — the off day between World Series Games 2 and 3.
***UPDATED at 8:06 PM ET***
Minor tweak to the report: The source claimed that a manager would probably be named on Friday, not that Mattingly would get the job. We regret the error.
As the Boston Red Sox did earlier, the Colorado Rockies have made their decision on who is on their World Series roster.
Aaron Cook was added Tuesday to the Colorado Rockies’ roster for the World Series, and he’ll start Game 4 at home against Boston. With the move, Franklin Morales heads from the rotation to the bullpen.
Cook takes the place of Taylor Bucholz, who has yet to pitch this postseason.
The Boston Red Sox announced their World Series rosters Tuesday and due to a bad shoulder, knuckleballer Tim Wakefield was left off the squad.
Also of interest: Jacoby Ellsbury, the rookie outfielder who is one of Boston’s best prospects, will start in centerfield Wednesday for Game 1. Ellsbury replaces the struggling and banged up centerfielder Coco Crisp.
Ed Montague, the 32-year veteran umpire, will serve as the crew chief for this year’s Fall Classic and will stand behind the plate for Game 1 at Fenway Park Wednesday.

We’ll be honest: other than Maurice Jones-Drew limping off with an apparent ankle injury near the end of the game and Joseph Addai not busting in a goal line touchdown (that honor went to Kenton Keith — the guy with two first names), the game seemed rather uneventful to us.
