Is Bedard deal close with Seattle?
27 01 2008M’s call Jones home, deal for Bedard may be close (Seattle Times)
According to published reports in The Seattle Times and verified by FOXSports.com’s national baseball writer Ken Rosenthal, the Seattle Mariners may be on the cusp of acquiring lefty Erik Bedard from the Baltimore Orioles.
Geoff Baker wrote that the Mariners have recalled prized prospect Adam Jones from the Venezuelan Winter League playoffs and he will fly to Baltimore for a physical on Monday.
Jones virtually confirmed the deal.
“(Bavasi) called me yesterday and told me the news,” Jones said. “I’ve got to go to Baltimore tomorrow morning and handle things there. I’m the centerpiece of the deal on the Mariners’ side. It’s an honor to get traded for such a highly talented pitcher as Bedard is.”

“It’s going to be weird being in a whole new organization,” he said. “I’ve got to go to Florida for spring training, but I just have to go over there, just meet all the guys, get in with them good and play baseball the way I know I play.”
There isn’t work on who will be tagging along with Jones to Baltimore, but it was rumored that the O’s had interest in reliever George Sherrill, Brandon Morrow, and minor-leaguers Jeff Clement, Carlos Triunfel and Chris Tillman.
